Durga Saptashati, also referred to as Devi Mahatmya or Chandi Path, is a Hindu religious scripture narrating the triumph of Goddess Durga over the demon Mahishasura. This text is a segment of the Markandeya Purana, authored by sage Markandeya.
Consisting of 700 verses, the text is known as Durga Saptashati, derived from the term "Saptashata," meaning 700. These verses are organized into 13 chapters. Supplementary texts are included before and after the 700 verses for ceremonial readings. Reading Durga Saptashati ritually is a part of Navratri festivities dedicated to honoring Goddess Durga.
