The Varaha Purana (Sanskrit: वराह पुराण, Varāha Purāṇa) is a Sanskrit text classified as one of the Puranas in Hindu literature. Belonging to the Vaishnavism tradition, it venerates Narayana (Vishnu) while also highlighting sections devoted to the worship of Shiva and Shakti (known as Brahmi, Vaishnavi, and Raudri).
Within the Varaha Purana, various myths are recounted, including the story of Vishnu's Varaha avatar rescuing the earth (Prithvi) from a devastating flood. It also explores narratives surrounding goddesses, Shiva, and addresses themes of Karma and Dharma in the Dharmasamhita segment. A substantial portion of the text focuses on medieval geographical Mahatmya (travel guides) that describe temples and locations in Mathura and Nepal. Notably, it diverges from the usual Krishna adoration present in Mathura-related sections of other Puranas.
