Swami Swarupananda, a disciple of Swami Vivekananda, served as the first president of the Advaitha Ashrama in Mayavati and was the former editor of Prabuddha Bharata. He compiled the current edition of the Bhagavad Gita with the help of his brother Sanyasins at Mayavati, along with some of Swami Vivekananda's Western disciples.
The compiler's aim was to make the divine Bhagavad Gita accessible to a global audience in English, fostering enough interest to encourage readers to engage with the original text and develop an appreciation for the interpretation of sacred Sanskrit literature.
