Sundara Kanda (Sanskrit: सुन्दरकाण्ड, romanized: Sundara Kāṇḍa, lit. 'beautiful chapter') serves as the fifth chapter in the Hindu epic Ramayana. The original Sundara Kanda was written in Sanskrit and traditionally attributed to Valmiki, the first to document the Ramayana. Unlike the rest of the Ramayana, Sundara Kanda's main character is not Rama but Hanuman. This chapter focuses on Hanuman's adventures, highlighting his selflessness, power, and devotion to Rama. Hanuman, affectionately called “Sundara” by his mother Anjani, inspired the name of this chapter as it narrates Hanuman's journey to Lanka.
