The Vishnu Purana, part of the eighteen Mahapuranas, belongs to the ancient and medieval texts of Hinduism. It holds significance as a Pancharatra text within the Vaishnavism literature collection. Numerous versions of the Vishnu Purana manuscripts have survived to the present day. Distinguished from other major Puranas, this text follows the Pancalaksana format, covering Sarga (cosmogony), Pratisarga (cosmology), Vamśa (genealogy of gods, sages, and kings), Manvañtara (cosmic cycles), and Vamśānucaritam (legends from the eras of different kings).
